March 27, 2002 Lincoln Sweeps Cougars With a pair of three-run victories, Lincoln swept the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars 7-4 and 3-0 at Roy Lee Field. Lincoln pitchers struck out Cougar hitters 22 times in the doubleheader and allowed just five walks. Brian Bax took the victory in game one while Chuck Inman tossed a four-hit shutout in the nightcap. SIUE's Josh Cate was 3 for 4 in game one with two runs batted in. Chad Opel ripped two of SIUE's four hits in the second game. SIUE is now 14-12 and is idle until Saturday when the Cougars face Rockhurst in non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Lincoln improved to 13-9. -siue cougars- |
