Garzarelli Named SIUE
Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt has named Todd Garzarelli to be the Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs.
Garzarelli comes to SIUE from Northern Illinois University (NIU), where he has held three different positions since 2004, his latest Associate Athletic Director for Marketing, Corporate and Broadcast Relations.
"We are very excited to have Todd join the Cougar Athletics family," said Hewitt. "His collegiate experience and knowledge of today's market made him an ideal candidate for the position. NIU has faced many of the same awareness and branding challenges waiting our athletic program, thus, consensus among the search committee (membership included SIUE faculty, staff, athletic administration, and five external community and business leaders) was that Todd offered SIUE the best chance to be successful."
Garzarelli has been the Associate Athletic Director for Marketing, Corporate and Broadcast Relations at NIU since 2007. He previously held positions in the Huskie athletic department as the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Corporate and Broadcast Relations as well as the Director of Marketing, Promotions and Licensing.
Revenue in corporate sponsorship, tickets, licensing, hospitality and media all increased dramatically at Northern Illinois under Garzarelli's tenure.
The Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs will assist Hewitt in the administration of the intercollegiate athletic programs at SIUE. The position is responsible for major gift fund raising, supervision and coordination of the Marketing, Corporate Sales, Athletic Tickets, Broadcasting, Licensing, Merchandising, and overseeing activities associated with the Cougar Scholarship Fund.
Garzarelli previously worked as the Director of Marketing and Promotions at the United States Military Academy (Army) from 2001 to 2004. He also served as marketing associate at the University of Missouri in the 2000-2001 season. He spent one season at the Air Force Academy as a Marketing and Development Assistant and as an Assistant to the Director of External Affairs at Saint Francis (Penn.).
At Army, he helped maintain an 18-station radio network that covered most of the U.S. market and assisted in a television agreement. Army Athletics increased corporate sponsorships, tickets and overall attendance under Garzarelli's watch.
Garzarelli holds a sport management degree from Slippery Rock University in 1998. He also earned a master's in sport management from Northern Illinois in 2006.
He and his wife, Leah, have a two-year-old daughter, Goia.
