September 18, 2008 SIUE Athletics Names Coomer Assistant Athletic Director for Sales and Marketing          EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Jason Coomer will join the staff at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the newly-created position of assistant athletic director for sales and marketing.          Dr. Brad Hewitt, director of athletics at SIUE, made the announcement Thursday. Hewitt said Coomer will be an important part of SIUE's transition to NCAA Division I status. The University is in its first of a four-year reclassification process.          "Jason will be responsible for developing SIUE's marketing, corporate sales and the athletic tickets department. We'll need him to be that bridge between the department and our supporters and fans," Hewitt said.          "I would like to thank Dr. Hewitt for the opportunity to become part of the Cougar family. This is an exciting time for the SIUE community, the City of Edwardsville, and the St. Louis metro area as we make the transition to Division I and the Ohio Valley Conference," said Coomer. "I am very excited about the future of SIUE Athletics and look forward to the opportunity to become part of the Edwardsville community."          Coomer comes from DePaul University, where he has served as the assistant director of marketing and licensing/Blue Crew adviser since 2005. He also served as the assistant director of ticket sales and operations from 2003 to 2005.          He generated marketing plans for men's soccer, women's soccer, women's basketball and softball at DePaul, including all print and electronic media, as well as radio campaigns. Coomer's efforts also included successful student marketing campaigns targeted at increasing attendance at various athletic contests.          Serving as a graduate assistant at The Ohio State University during the 2002-2003 athletic year, Coomer worked in event management and ticketing.          "I think Jason's experience and knowledge gathered at DePaul and Ohio State make him the ideal person for this position. All of his references described him as a tireless worker and a consummate professional," Hewitt said.          Coomer earned a bachelor's in social science education in 2001 from the University of Southern Indiana and a master's in sports management at Ohio State in 2003.                   -siue cougars-
