SIUE Moves Up to 15th Place in NACDA Directors' Cup
EDWARDSVILLE, IL. -- With four more teams scoring points during the winter season, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville improved its position in the 2006-2007 Directors' Cup.
SIUE moved into 15th place after the winter sports season. The Cougars scored points during the winter season in wrestling, women's basketball, men's indoor track and field and women's indoor track and field.
SIUE's best finish of the winter season was a sixth-place finish at the women's NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston. The Cougars finished with eight All-American performances at the meet, including a runner-up finish for the 1,600-meter relay team of Angel Royston (Florissant, Mo.), Juliet Alrich (Carpentersville), Valerie Simmons (St. Louis) and Deserea Brown (Flossmoor).
The SIUE women's basketball team received its first bid to the NCAA Championships in five seasons. John Ficht (Burbank) qualified for the NCAA Championships in wrestling. Kyle Rose led the men's track and field team with his All-American performance at 400 meters.
The Cougars had their best-ever finish in the NACDA Directors' Cup last season when they placed fourth overall.
