SIUE Places Second in GLVC All-Sports Trophy, Commissioner’s Cup
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- With a year filled with six Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville athletic program placed second in the league’s All-Sports Trophy and Commissioner’s Cup.
The All-Sports Trophy records points for each conference sport based on the finishes of the team’s competing in those sports. The Commissioner’s Cup recorded points in the conference’s prescribed seven core sports of men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, softball and baseball.
“We’re ecstatic by the number of teams which excelled this season,” said SIUE Director of Athletics Brad Hewitt. “It’s a great statement for our program. When we looked to enhance the sports a few years ago, one of our goals was to become a national contender.”
SIUE won GLVC titles in volleyball, softball, men’s indoor track and field, women’s indoor track and field, men’s outdoor track and field and women’s outdoor track and field.
Northern Kentucky won both the All-Sports Trophy and the Commissioner’s Cup, edging SIUE by 1.5 points in both races.
