April 20, 2006 Simmons, Graham Named to IHSA Basketball 100 Legends (EDWARDSVILLE, ILL.) Current Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball coach Marty Simmons and former Cougar coach Larry Graham recently were named to the 100 Legends of Boys Basketball list by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). Simmons has been SIUE's head coach for four seasons, leading SIUE to an Elite Eight appearance and two straight NCAA appearances. The Cougars broke the single-season wins record this season with 25. Over the past two seasons, SIUE has posted a 48-17 record under Simmons. Graham coached at SIUE from 1984 to 1992, leading SIUE to its first three appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Graham's teams finished with 23-7 records in 1985-86, 1986-87 and 1988-89. His 147 victories at SIUE remains No. 1 on the coaching wins list. The IHSA put together the list in an online election that ran from November through March. An additional 18 legends were selected by a committee. Simmons guided Lawrenceville to two undefeated state championships in 1982 and 1983. He scored 43 points in a 1983 state quarterfinal 56-54 win over Providence-St. Mel. He was named Mr. Basketball in 1983. Graham became the second coach after Lawrenceville's Ron Felling to win two state championships.
