Department of Anthropology Title

Senior Assignment

The Anthropology Senior Assignment consists of a two-semester, intensive research project mentored by a tenure-track faculty member. During the fall, students develop research proposals and begin their research, which typically involves both library research and collection of primary data (ethnographic, archaeological, etc.). During the spring, students complete their research, which they then report in at least two ways: a written report or research paper and an oral presentation, the formats of which follow common professional standards.  The oral presentations mimick a professional meeting: each student gives a 15 minute presentation before an audience that includes all anthropology tenure-track faculty members, anthropology students, and guests.  They then have five minutes to answer questions from the audience. In addition to the written report and oral presentation, other products of the SRA could include a museum display, website, or other creative product.
