As another semester draws to a close, many changes will take place in the lives of students.
Finals show their ugly faces and tension mounts as grades are processed and sent in the mail. The little letters on that slip of paper could mean life or death to some. We find out if all that hard work, or lack thereof, really paid off in the end.
As my semester ends, I look forward to being the new editor in chief of the Alestle. I can't say that many things are going to be different, but like any change of command, a different style is brought forward. I have new ideas and a different way of doing things.
It all starts with the students. I cannot publish a successful paper if students are not interested in reading it. That just doesn't make sense.
The Alestle should be a source that all students look to for information about their world. To do this properly, we have to know what interests and intrigues you.
One way to tell us what you want is to write a letter to the editor or call our sound-off line. Letters to the editor must be signed under most circumstances, but sound-off calls are anonymous.
Of course, the easiest way to let us know is to simply come to us and get a job. We are always looking for writers to fill slots, especially over the summer.
If you haven't gotten it yet - we want to hear from you. It's kind of like voting. If you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain about the people in office. While you can always complain about the newspaper, if there is a problem with the Alestle, let us know.
As the editor, I want to look more deeply into the issues that concern the students. I want to uncover the parking problems, the dining service problems or any other problems students have with SIUE.
Don't be afraid to tell us what you think should be in the newspaper. I won't promise it will all go into the paper, but I will look into the issues that concern you.
In other words, if you have something to say, then say it. You'll find out soon enough that I won't hold back. I have plenty to say.
If you're stuck here this summer, make the most of it. Don't stop reading the Alestle. If you have the summer off, have a safe and fun break.
We'll be here when you get back.
