Carol Torrini (second from right) receives a plaque for April's employee of the month. She is joined by Rudy Wilson (left), assistant provost for cultural and social diversity, Karen Patty-Graham, the director of instructional services who nominated Torrini, and vice chancellor Kenneth Neher.

Carol Torrini is the recipient of April's Employee Recognition Award.

Torrini is the secretary for the office of instructional services, where she has worked for 11 years.

"I'm very excited about it," she said. "It is a very nice honor to be nominated and to receive the award."

Torrini received her award on April 18 and chose a $25 gift certificate to the University Bookstore as her prize.

"She is the only secretary we have in an office of 29 people," Instructional Services Director Karen Patty-Graham said. "In addition to helping me with budgeting, scheduling and staffing decisions, she also helps the other staff members with their work."

"She thrives on the energy in this office and we thrive on her energy as well," Patty-Graham added. "She is more of a colleague than an employee. I really value her not just for the job she does, but for the personal touch she puts into everything she does."

Patty-Graham said Torrini also directs traffic into Peck Hall.

"We are located near a major entrance to Peck Hall. We get a lot of lost students. She either gives directions, or she takes them where they need to go," Patty-Graham said.

"My role is to be of any help to the instructors, the director, students or anyone else," Torrini said. "I would like to mention the two very good student workers who help me accomplish all of these tasks. I'm here to help out any way I can."

Torrini is the 21st person to receive the Employee Recognition Award, which started in July 1998.
