A 19-year-old student at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale is hospitalized in Springfield with meningitis.
The university said Tuesday that Carrie E. Milnor of Decatur went to the university health service Monday after developing a rash. She was transferred to Springfield later that night from Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
She was described
as "progressing without complications" Tuesday.
The university said the health service had treated the students who roomed with her and who rode back to campus with her from the Thanksgiving break. Meningitis, which can be lethal, is an inflammation of the membranes that cover the spinal cord.
