The stars will light up Hollywood as they take to the famous red carpet Sunday for the 73rd Academy Awards.
The Shrine Auditorium will once again hold the Oscars. ABC Television Network will be broadcasting the event at 7 p.m. According to the Oscars' Web site, a half-hour arrival segment will begin the show and then lead into the actual awards ceremony.
Comedian and actor Steve Martin will be the host for this year's awards.
Martin began his career in the '60s as a writer. He later on began to perform his work and became famous for his appearances on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" and "Saturday Night Live."
"He's everything! He's a movie star, he's funny, he's class, he's literate - he'll be a wonderful host," said Gil Cates, producer of the Academy Awards telecast, on the Web site at www.oscar.com.
Along with Martin, many other stars are scheduled to take the stage as presenters. Ashley Judd, Juliette Binoche, Russell Crowe, Julia Stiles, Angelina Jolie, Hilary Swank and Sir Anthony Hopkins are only some of the actors and actresses that will be joining Martin and presenting awards during the ceremony. Actor Nicolas Cage will be presenting an award with actor Chow Yun-Fat from a taped telecast.
Other celebrities slated to make an appearance at the 73rd Academy Awards ceremony include Samuel L. Jackson, Kate Hudson, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Mike Myers, Julie Andrews, Ben Stiller, Kevin Spacey, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lopez.
"Gladiator," which starred Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, is nominated for 13 Oscars this year, including best motion picture of the year. Crowe is nominated for best performance in a leading role and Phoenix is up for performance by an actor in a supporting role for "Gladiator."
Trailing not far behind is the film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." This film received 10 nominations for awards including best motion picture of the year and achievement in cinematography for its special effects.
Other big movies to watch for various awards include "Erin Brokovich," "Chocolat," "Traffic" and "Almost Famous."
