The Alestle has a new Web site.
Over the past semester we have been working with College Publisher, a company specializing in newspaper sites, to get the Alestle a new Web site. We have finally done it. Students can still go to our old site, www.siue.edu/ALESTLE, to look at past editions, but the latest news will be found at www.thealestle.com.
Our new site is more interactive. Forums will be posted, and readers can leave comments about stories and let the world know what they think about what is going on at SIUE.
Other forums on different topics will be offered to try to stir up discussion among readers about things going on around the campus, the country and the world. We hope to get students, faculty and staff more involved with our paper and the campus.
To post a comment on a forum, students, faculty and staff will have to register and log in to the site. Don't worry though. We're not going to fill your e-mail inbox with a bunch of junk. We just want to know who is looking at the site and what they think. You won't have to log in to read the news, just to participate.
The new site also offers a student poll each week. We'll try to focus the question on news going around the campus. If students have ideas for topics for forums or poll questions, we would like to hear them as well.
We don't have all the bugs worked out yet, but our new site will be in top shape as soon as possible. Just bear with us for a little while.
We're doing our best to get news to the SIUE community, and this Web site will help us do that.
Let us know what you think. We can only make ourselves better if you tell us what you want.
