The Friends of Lovejoy Library will sponsor its 31st Annual SIUE Antiques Show and Sale on Saturday and Sunday at the Vadalabene Center Gymnasium.

According to Donna Bardon, recently retired director of development for Library and Information Services, 57 antique dealers from the Midwest will set up booths.

"We have people coming from Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa and Indiana," Bardon said.

According to Bardon, the Friends of Lovejoy Library continues to sponsor the show because it is a good fund-raiser for the library.

"We average around $12,000 net profit, which is used to buy books and other materials for the library," Bardon said.

The show raises money through ticket sales and booth space rental. Booth rental costs between $200 and $250.

"We usually have 2,500 to 3,000 people come to the show," Bardon said. The dealers will sell a variety of items including furniture and jewelry. Free appraisals with paid admission will be offered from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. There is a two-item limit on appraisals.

Larry and Helen Gilbert from Dahlia House Antiques will be at the show.

"We've been to the SIUE Antiques Show about 10 times and we always enjoy it," Helen Gilbert said.

"The people who run it are very nice to work with and they always treat the vendors fairly," Gilbert said. "We do 16 to 18 shows a year so it's always nice to do one that's so close so we don't have a lot of travel expenses."

The Gilberts will be selling glassware, china, primitives, vintage clothes and showcase smalls.

"We're looking forward to the show," Gilbert said.

Tickets for both days of the show are available for $4 at the door, and children under 13 are admitted free.
