Student talent will be showcased Wednesday at the Third Annual Talent Show, part of SIUE's Black Heritage Month events.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. and will go until 10 p.m. in the Meridian Ballroom at the Morris University Center.

Earleen Patterson, program director of Special Services, said she hopes it's a big success and is looking forward to everyone being there and having a good time.

Twelve acts will be performing. Patterson said eight acts were cut because of time limitations.

Five judges will vote on the performances. The judges are Mary Robinson, director of the Morris University Center; James Jackson, associate professor of the special education department; Aishia Jones, graduate assistant in the Special Services department; Cheryl Heard, assistant director of the Kimmel Leadership Center; and Narbeth Emmanuel, vice chancellor for student affairs.

Prizes of $300 will be awarded to the top three acts.

The event is open to the public. Students from East St. Louis High School and other surrounding schools will participate in a contest between talent acts. The contest is a quiz over black history facts. T-shirts will be awarded to the winning students.

"There is great talent among the students of SIUE," Patterson said.
