The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is an organization comprised of undergraduate and graduate students majoring in the fields of speech pathology and audiology. Students may join the SIUE chapter for a small yearly fee of $5 and may join the national chapter for an annual fee of $45. With national membership, students receive a free subscription to the scholarly journal of their choice. All students, even entering freshmen, interested in speech pathology or audiology are encouraged to at least join the SIUE chapter.
The SIUE chapter is planning a variety of activities this year. To start the year off, on Tuesday, Aug. 22 (during Welcome Week), NSSLHA will be selling fruit cups in the Quad area. Later in the year, we will be hosting a fund-raising dinner and silent auction at 5 p.m. on Oct. 21 in the Morris University Center, with all proceeds going to the American Society for Deaf Children. Everyone is invited to partake, and tickets will be available soon. In November, we will be selling butterbraids and possibly wreaths. Also, we will be having monthly bake sales in Founders Hall, so stop by and see us.
If you would like more information on NSSLHA or the fields of speech pathology and audiology, please stop by the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic located in Founders Hall, Room 1300, or call us at 650-5623. Leave us a message, and we'll get back to you.
