The Career Development Center prepares students to enter the work world by providing career counseling and assisting students and alumni in their job search process.

Currently enrolled students can register with the CDC online at no charge at http://www.careers.siue.edu. At the Web site, students can post their resumes for potential employers to view.

Students can view job openings on and off campus at the Cougar Jobline. The jobline also lists careers and Cooperative Education (Co-op) opportunities.

The Co-op program allows undergraduate and graduate students to gain paid work experience in the major field of study while attending SIUE.

Students can participate in on-campus interviewing for career positions and co-op opportunities. Interviews can be scheduled and reviewed on the CDC Web site.

The CDC offers a Career Resource Center, which provides printed material on occupations, career issues, companies, interviewing techniques and resume writing. Computers are available with Web access and a self-guided career guidance information system (SIGI Plus).

Counselors are on duty to help students in choosing a major or a career. They conduct interest and personality inventories and critique resumes and interviewing skills. Students can participate in mock interviews in videotaped sessions.

The Alumni Sharing Knowledge Program allows counselors to match students with alumni who share their knowledge of the work world.

IMAGE workshops, orientations and presentations are held throughout the year to prepare students. A two-credit hour career planning class (AD 117) is offered on career development and self-exploration.

Two career fairs are held annually, the Oktober Career Fest and the Career Network in March, to locate students and alumni with local and national employers.
