Whether you need to check your e-mail, surf the Internet, browse a database or type a paper, there are a number of computer labs on campus designed for student and employee use.

The three types of computer labs available for use are walk-in labs, walk-in labs that can be reserved for classes, and no walk-in labs.

Walk-in labs are open to students and staff during all operating hours. The walk-in labs on campus are the Lovejoy Library Lab in Lovejoy Library Room, 0033a; the Cougar Village Lab in the Commons Building; the Science Lab in the Science Building Room 1226; the Foreign Language Lab in Peck Hall, Room 2310; the Prairie Lab in Prairie Hall and the Woodland Lab in Woodland Hall.

Walk-in labs that can only be used if no class is scheduled are the Alumni Lab in Alumni Hall, Room 1203; the Art and Design Lab in the Art and Design Building, Room 2101; the Dunham Lab in Dunham Hall, Room 2009; the Multimedia Lab in Dunham Hall, Room 1014; the Music Lab in Dunham Hall, Room 0194; Founders Lab 1 in Founders Hall, Room 2301; Founders Lab 2 in Founders Hall, Room 0301; Peck Lab in Peck Hall, Room 1410; Science Classroom 1 in the Science Building, Room 1211a; and Science Classroom 2 in Room 1225.

No walk-in labs are reserved exclusively for classroom use.

In addition to these labs, Email Express is a bank of computers located in the basement of Morris University Center where students can access their SIUE e-mail accounts.

The hours for computer labs on campus vary. The labs in Woodland and Prairie Halls are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A complete schedule can be found at http://www.library.siue.edu/ac/labclass.html. Each lab posts a schedule on the room door.

Printers in most computer labs are operated by a VendaCard system. A VendaCard can be purchased from one of several machines on campus for $1. Money can be added to the cards using the same machine.

Black and white printouts are 8 cents per page and color copies, where available, are 50 cents per page. VendaCards can also be used for photocopy machines. In labs where there is not a VendaCard reader, users are responsible for paying the lab attendant for printouts.

Lab rules are the same across campus. Show or scan your student identification card when you enter the lab. Be considerate of other lab users; computer labs are designated as study areas. Abide by the Illinois Computer Crime Prevention Law, which can be found at http://www.library.siue.edu/ac/law.html, and the computing policies of the SIU board of trustees.

The policies prohibit lab users to bring food or beverages into the lab, install, copy or reconfigure software; download or save files to the workstation hard drive; reboot or turn off a computer; play games or use chat rooms unless assigned by an instructor. Failure to follow these rules may result in suspension of lab privileges or other disciplinary action.

Lab attendants are available during operating hours to answer any questions regarding computer programs and equipment..
