Army ROTC

Jim Hillabrandt, 2LT
Assistant Recruiting Officer

Army ROTC (Reserve Office Training Corps) is an elective course that provides a combination of academic and hands-on training. Students are placed into positions of responsibility, assess individual capabilities of fellow students and tasked to build effective teams. The freshmen course is worth two credit hours with sophomore, junior and senior courses all worth three credit hours. All courses count as elective credit toward any major. There is no commitment to the military until junior year. In addition ROTC offers the following opportunities: Scholarships: State and federal scholarships are also available to students that enroll in the course. These scholarships will pay for your general tuition and have no commitment to enter service until your junior year. Ranger Challenge: A ranger challenge team consists of eight to 10 cadets who compete against other colleges in events that challenge individuals both mentally and physically. Tactics/Gaming Club: Cadets familiarize themselves with tactics and strategies while learning about history and having fun at the same time. Color Guard: The Cougar Battalion Color Guard not only presents the national colors at official ROTC events, but also represents the school at graduations, area parades and sporting events. Past sporting events include posting the colors at both St. Louis Rams and Cardinals games.
